Clash of Clans for Android: Soon to be released!

News just in! Supercell (the makers of Clash of Clans) have just announced that they are releasing a 'Beta' version of Clash of Clans for Android! This version will only be for private testing for now, however they have indicated that a full release to limited countries (initially) and then a Global release is very soon to follow!

Questions to be Answered

Here are some frequently asked questions about the Android version of Clash of Clans.
Update (October 1st): Supercell have responded with official answers to the questions and they have been updated below accordingly.

Will you be able to transfer your game between Android and iPhone/iPad devices?

Yes! You can do so using device linking from iOS/Gamecenter to Android/Google+

To Transfer your account:

  1. Launch Clash on your iOS device (eg: iPhone/iPad/iTouch)
  2. Open the Settings in the Game
  3. Select "Link a Device" and follow the on screen instructions.
  4. If you have any difficulty, contact support via the Report an issue feature inside the game.

Will Android users be on the same servers or different servers as iOS users?

Yes they will! Android and iOS users will be on the same servers and will be able to mix together in the same clans etc... You will be able to attack Android users in the exact same way as iOS users - there will be no visible difference between the two types of users.

Which Android releases and/or devices will be supported for Clash of Clans?

There will be the following requirements to play Clash of Clans on Android:

  • Android devices with OS 4.0.3 or later
  • A recommended resolution of 800 x 480 or higher
  • A minimum of 512 MB of memory
  • The ability to access the Google Play store from your device

When and how will the Global release of Clash of Clans for Android occur

Currently the game is in limited release beta and is not available to the public. The official release date has not yet been announced, however it has been advised that it will come out 'soon'. It will initially be released only to a select few countries before a true global release.

Will there be any functional differences between the Android and iOS versions?

Supercell have indicated that there will be no functional differences between the versions

How many new players will the Android release bring?

While there are no official estimations or figures for this, According to Gartner, Apple devices only account for 22.6% of the market in 2013, compared to Andoid devices which hold 57.9% of the market share. While many older Android devices will not be able to play the game, there still would conservatively be at least a doubling of ninjaential player numbers.

Q: Is the 'Beta' version still in development or a final version that is being ninjad?

Although it is listed as a 'Beta' Supercell have indicated that it is a finalized version and is just being ninjad for stability

Q: Will I be able to play the Android version on my Desktop or Laptop?

Not at this time. The Google Play store will currently only allow you to download the game onto mobile devices.

Can I start a new village on my Android device and then replace it with my iOS village later?

Yes you will be able to do this normally, However if you have done any of the following you will be prevented from doing it:

  • If you have purchased gems on the Android device
  • If your Android village is Townhall 4 or above
Will it be possible to distinguish between iOS and Android players in game?

No, there will be no way of telling in Game if a player is using an iOS or Android device

Will the Android version be secure and free from hackers/cheaters

Supercell claim that because the game is Server based it cannot be hacked, they have assured users that the Android version will be as safe as the iOS version

Will this release create extensive flame wars between the different device owners

If history tells us anything, then it almost certainly will

Will updates be released slower now that there are multiple platforms to code for?

No, Supercell fully expect to deliver updates at the same pace as always.

Will updates for Android and iOS be released at the same time?

Yes, There may be slight differences in time (hours) but they will be released on the same date.

Will Gems cost the same for Android and iOS users?

Yes, prices will be exactly the same. If cirninjatances outside Supercell's control cause a discrepancy prices will be adjusted accordingly.
